Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orchestra (BGKO) is an international ensemble that interprets passionately and with personality the traditional music from the Balkans and that of Gipsies and Jews from Eastern Europe, never forgetting its roots.

The unique and contemporary sound of the Barcelona Gipsy Balkan Orchestra comes from its tireless and passionate exploration of timbres and flavors of Klezmer, Romani and Balkan music. Balkan music has to be understood as an ensemble of musical traditions and a multi-ethnic culture that goes further than its geographic limits and is nourished by all the historical traditions that have once inhabited these lands: Ashkenazi and Sephardi Jews, Gipsies, Ottomans, Arabs…

At the same time, the band has become richer thanks to the different artistic influences of all members and got inspired by the Barcelonese scene, from Latin-American, traditional, Catalan, Italian, Greek, Russian or Middle-East melodies, to the vibrant sound of jazz, flamenco, jazz manouche and rockabilly.

The BGKO is formed by Sandra Sangiao (voice, Catalonia), Mattia Schirosa (accordion, Italy), Ivan Kovacevic (contrabass, Serbia), Julien Chanal (guitar, France), Stelios Togias (percussion, Greece), Joaquín Gil (clarinet, Málaga, Andalusia) and Oleksandr Sora (violin, Ukraine).
